behind the sound

Welcome! I'm Ken McCormack — producer, arranger and mix engineer behind Niamh Productions.

As a musician, I'm best described as an indie guitarist. As a producer, programmer and arranger, I work across all genres — the art of production is simply to listen.

I began recording demos in a cellar studio, then spent a decade live engineering, mixing artists like John Martyn, Wilko Johnson, Albert Lee and The Stan Tracey Octet. So, my core approach is built on a "live" dynamic - the focus is great-sounding guitars, bass and drums. Achieving that takes beautiful microphones, class-A preamps and flawless sonics - but before that, power and dynamics come from preparation - tuning and instrument setup.

As well as channel strip work, I've spent decades programming, creating textures and orchestrations influenced by artists like Björk, Goldfrapp, Lewis Taylor and Massive Attack, whilst drawing inspiration from composers like Maurice Jarre or George Gershwin.

My goal is to help you create music of that standard. To that end, it's time to put fingers on keys, faders, knobs and strings!
